He asked, ‘Brothers, what is the quarrel about?

Why are you thus gathered here in the village square?’

The sarpanch explained the situation and asked,

‘Tell us, Panditji,

How do we settle this?’

Panditji thought awhile and clearing his throat, replied,

‘Ask the old banyan tree himself

He would have seen everything

He will tell you truthfully what happened.’

Everybody liked Panditji’s suggestion,

So, agreeing upon a time to meet again the following day,

They returned home.

Liar now began to worry—what would happen the next day?

What if the old banyan really did speak out?
